The Mayville Community Centre Wins 3R (Refurb, Rethink, Retrofit) Award

The Mayville Community Centre picked up the award for Best Public Building at the 3R (Refurb, Rethink, Retrofit) Awards 2011 at a presentation held last night at the Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington, where many of those playing a pioneering role in this sector were present.

Following the success of the inaugural Retrofit Awards, launched in 2010, the awards were expanded to include all areas of the retrofit and refurbishment markets.

The 3R Awards (Refurb, Rethink, Retrofit) are organised by The Architects' Journal, Construction News and New Civil Engineer. They reward and celebrate design, engineering and construction excellence that prolongs the active life of buildings and infrastructure, helping the lower energy/lower carbon agenda.

Commenting on the awards, Paul Finch, Editorial Director of The Architects' Journal, said: 'Retrofit and creative adaptation will be critical if we are to develop sustainable, long-term built environments. They are also essential if we are going to meet the challenge of a low-carbon future. These awards are a recognition and celebration of great projects already completed, and will promote exemplars across the construction industry.'

According to the organisers, entries were up 30% on last year and the quality of work was outstanding.  This just goes to show that excellent projects are being rolled out across the board to prolong the active life of buildings and infrastructure, helping the lower energy/lower carbon agenda.

Paul Finch and Government Chief Construction Adviser, Paul Morell hosted the awards and presented the winners with their trophies.
