Retrofit for the Future: Episode 1
This film, produced by bere:architects, documents two of bere:architects Pasivhaus EnerPhit domestic retrofit projects. The projects are being carried out under the Technology Strategy Board Retrofit for the Future programme. Using reliable passivhaus techniques in the refurbishments, the projects aim to show how improved thermal comfort, improved allergy protection and fresh air quality, reduced energy bills and lower CO2 emissions are possible for millions of people who currently live in poor quality social housing. The works promote a robust fabric first approach to retrofit, employing high levels of external insulation and very high levels of building envelope draught proofing resulting in the designed energy reduction reaching 95% compared to the existing building consumption figures. These demonstration buildings will help to show how deep-energy retrofit can provide the energy cuts required within the existing social housing building stock necessary to ease fuel poverty, minimise primary energy use and create a healthy indoor environment with a plentiful supply of fresh air.
The first episode of this film documents and interviews the key stake holders involved as well as the occupants whose houses were chosen for these ground-breaking projects.
