Sylvanus House

A compact tree-top house on a steeply sloping site within Highgate Cemetery.

We added a floor and completely reconfigured a cold, damp, derelict house into a comfortable home that realises the potential of an extraordinary site. The house takes its form from the steeply sloping site on Swain’s Lane. An insulated, gently twisting structure opens towards the winter sun and fantastic views. An overhanging roof canopy controls summer heat gains. From the top floor terrace a magical, shimmering panorama of London can be seen at night through a veil of trees.

Our client was a property developer, and we maximised the return on his investment, while doing more than the minimum required under building regulations.
