In a unique extension of the indepth, remote energy monitoring of the low cost, passivhaus Larch and Lime Houses in Ebbw Vale, the keys to the houses were handed over to the two lucky families who have won a competition to live in the houses rent free for 12 months whilst participating in the live monitoring process.

This serious subject became the talking point of the conference after the delivery of a thoroughly entertaining talk that ended up with a pythonesque crushing of a Code 3 house by a gigantic foot that came down from the roof of the auditorium.

Mike Jackson of Splash tv and ecologically-minded architect Eric Parks were on site yesterday in Ebbw Vale to film a 'Soft Landings' handover event for the Larch and Lime house.

Maintenance officer Peter Counsel from United Welsh Housing Association came to learn more about the technical aspects of the two passivhaus dwellings, including how to keep them running optimally for the future tenants.

Lime House Passivhaus

The two-bedroom, ultra low-cost Lime House in Ebbw Vale has just been awarded full Passivhaus certification. It also achieves code 5 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

Larch and Lime House receive Exemplar Award

At the launch of Constructing Excellence Wales’ Exemplar Programme, bere:architects received a pilot Exemplar Programme award for designing the Larch and Lime House at Ebbw Vale.
