The Mayville Community Centre has been shortlisted in the 3R Awards Public Building category alongside Central Hall, Keighley (Hodson Architects) and The Octagon, Haringey (Mace). The winners will be anounced at an awards ceremony on 10th November at The Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington.
The 3R Awards (Refurb, Rethink, Retrofit) are organised by The Architects' Journal, Construction News and New Civil Engineer and have been created to reward and celebrate design, engineering and construction excellence that prolongs the active life of buildings and infrastructure, helping the lower energy/lower carbon agenda.
Retrofit is a growing business opportunity across every sector of the built environment, with an estimated £500 billion expected to be spent over the next three decades. The award categories range from one-off homes to major infrastructure projects, rewarding not just engineers and architects, but innovative products, specialist companies and excellent achievement across the board.
Commenting on the awards, Paul Finch, Editorial Director of The Architects' Journal, said: 'Retrofit and creative adaptation will be critical if we are to develop sustainable, long-term built environments. They are also essential if we are going to meet the challenge of a low-carbon future. These awards are a recognition and celebration of great projects already completed, and will promote exemplars across the construction industry.'
